Evergreen, Alabama

We can’t tell you what’s best about Evergreen! Maybe its SERFI (South East Regional Fly-In)? This is a large airshow where both factory built and hand built, experimental aircraft fly into Evergreen for a weekend show. However, it could easily be the Conecuh County Sausage Festival which is held in October of each year. Let’s admit it; Conecuh Sausage is by far the best sausage ever made!! It is just that great! However, we honestly believe that it’s the good, hardworking citizens of Evergreen that make the area such a spectacular place!

Evergreen is small town located in Conecuh County. It was settled mostly by people from Georgia and South Carolina, and it was officially incorporated in 1873. However, the town was founded as early as 1819 by Revolutionary War veterans. Oddly, Evergreen has a history of fires in the mid 1890’s. In 1896, a fire destroyed almost every building east of the railroad tracks. Five days later, another fire destroyed almost every building west of the tracks. Also, the Conecuh County Courthouse burned in 1868, 1875, 1885, and of course 1895. One of the most notable people from Evergreen is William B. Travis, commander of the Texan forces at the Battle of the Alamo!
